Caragiale in Translation

dramaturg şi prozator ion luca caragiale n 30 01 1852

The following collection of three short stories by Ion Luca Caragiale (1852-1912) are the result of a research excursion to Romania in 2006. Caragiale is best known as a celebrated Romanian playwright, but his many short stories and sketches deserve attention. I chose to translate "Mânjoală's Inn," The Devil's Horse," and "Easter Candle" because they are a departure for Caragiale, having as their subject, the supernatural. I will soon be publishing here the fourth of his supernatural stories, "Kir Ianulea," soon.
